About HSPA

Haddon Charity For Performing Arts, HCPA for short is based in Chapel End, Nuneaton, Warwickshire. It was founded in 2011 by a group of dedicated individuals who wanted to make performing arts more accessible for children and young people. Originally it was set up as a constituted voluntary group however, as of December 2018 it became a registered charity. The founding principal behind
HCPA is ‘Arts for All’ and as such we believe in making performing arts and children’s access to it a right not a privilege.

As it stands today, we offer a fully inclusive organisation with several actively running programs/ projects seeing approximately 200 people each week ranging from children aged 12 months to adult.

Currently our organisation supports the following types of young people; SEN register, Pupil Premium & Ever 6, Children on the at-risk register, Children in the foster care system, Children with an actively serving military parent / guardian, young carers and young people struggling with mental health difficulties as well as adults in our community. That is not to say we work exclusively with the above criteria of young people our services are available to anyone, however, the above groups receive additional support to ensure our work is accessible for all.

Our organisation is accredited with the National Autistic Society we are also a member of the Restraint Reduction Network as well as being an approved provider registered with our local authority. We are also proud members of the living wage foundation and a mind affiliated organisation as well as being an ‘outstanding’ member of the Safe Space Alliance. In January we were also nominated as Educator of the year by World Skills UK for our dedication to inclusivity and diversity. We have excellent relationships with local social services as well as the family information services and EHCP coordinators all who actively support and promote our services. All this gives us additional resources, a wide reach and support to be best placed to provide the work we do.

Originally our organisation worked from various locations such as church halls and community centres but as the need for our work grew as did the need for our organisation to have our own space to call home. In 2020 our organisation signed the lease on a large, abandoned church and began the mammoth project of restoration. This was such a challenge as we had to complete all the renovation works whilst navigating multiple lockdowns as well as having to suspend our regular activities which was supposed to provide a large chunk of the funds for our renovation. Despite all the challenges we managed to finally reopen for face-toface activities in April 2022 and have a beautiful home we can be proud of.
